Multilevel polynomial partitions and simplified range searching
The polynomial partitioning method of Guth and Katz [arXiv:1011.4105] has numerous applications in discrete and computational geometry. It partitions a given n-point set P ⊂ R using the zero set Z(f) of a suitable d-variate polynomial f . Applications of this result are often complicated by the problem, what should be done with the points of P lying within Z(f)? A natural approach is to partiti...
متن کاملA Simplified Mathematical Model of Solid Tumor Regrowth with Therapies
A simplified mathematical model of solid tumor regrowth is analyzed. When the model system is disturbed by radiation and chemotherapy, which are given by discontinuous functions, the system loses its smoothness. For the purpose of comparison and verification of therapy efficacy, a weak solution is constructed. Some suggestions about effective combination of treatments are also given.
متن کاملA mathematical model of ventilation response to inhaled carbon monoxide.
A comprehensive mathematical model, describing the respiration, circulation, oxygen metabolism, and ventilatory control, is assembled for the purpose of predicting acute ventilation changes from exposure to carbon monoxide in both humans and animals. This Dynamic Physiological Model is based on previously published work, reformulated, extended, and combined into a single model. Model parameters...
متن کاملExperimental study and simplified mathematical description
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the concept of preferential crystallisation focussing on aspects of quantification and application from the engineering point of view. In experiments performed, the amino acid threonine was used as a model system. Application of on-line polarimetry in combination with measurements of an on-line density meter proved the general applicability of this me...
متن کاملa Simplified Model of Distributed Parameter Systems
A generalized simplified model for describing the dynamic behavior of distributed parameter systems is proposed. The various specific characteristics of gain and phase angle of distributed parameter systems are investigated from frequency response formulation and complex plane representation of the proposed simplified model. The complex plane investigation renders some important inequality cons...
